BANK PEMBANGUNAN MALAYSIA BERHAD CONTRIBUTES EDUCATION ASSISTANCE FUNDS AMOUNTING TO RM1.425 MILLION TO B40 STUDENTS AT SIX PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES

Monday, 20 December 2021, Kuala Lumpur - Reinforcing its commitment to enhance the livelihoods of local students in need, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB) recently contributed education assistance funds amounting to RM1.425 million to six public universities in Malaysia.

 

The recipients of the donation were Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK); Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI); Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM); Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM); Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM); and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). The donation for each university will be distributed to those in need, especially students of the B40 community.

 

The contribution presentation ceremony, which was officiated by BPMB's President/Group Chief Executive Officer, Arshad Ismail was held recently at Menara BPMB. The event was also attended by the Bank's senior management team as well as the recipients of each university.

 

Arshad said this initiative is an annual contribution conducted by BPMB over the last 4 years, whereby approximately 20 public universities have received the contribution to-date.

 

“I am extremely pleased that we were able to personally hand over our contribution to the eligible students. This initiative certainly is something that is very close to my heart as it echo's the Bank's commitment as a responsible development financial institution to continue exercising our corporate social responsibility to help those in need, especially given the current challenging situation. With our humble contribution, we hope that it can help alleviate and ease some of the burden of the students in need and their families as well,” Arshad elaborated.

 

From 2018 to 2020, BPMB has contributed to 17 public universities namely Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM); Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM); Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM); Universiti Malaya (UM); Universiti Malaysia Terengganu; Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM); Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM); Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS); Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UniMas); Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM); Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM); Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP); Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM); Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP); Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM); and Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM). In total, including the donation made this year, BPMB has contributed approximately RM8.675 million to selected public universities in its journey to improve the quality of life and help ease the learning process of students in need.
