THE MALAYSIAN RESERVE - Zaiton is new chairman of Bank Pembangunan

Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd (BPMB) has appointed Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan as its independent non-executive chairman effective yesterday.

She succeeds Tan Sri Dr Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah who retired last November. In a statement released yesterday, BPMB said Zaiton's appointment has the approval of the Finance Ministry.

Zaiton has over 40 years of experience in banking and finance, including senior positions. She set up Malaysian Rating Corp Bhd in 1996 and was its president until 2004.

Her extensive experience as an independent director includes chairing the group governance and audit committee of Sime Darby Bhd, and she is now the governance and audit committee chairman of Sime Darby Plantation Bhd.

In July last year, she was appointed to the board of Lembaga Tabung Haji and is chairman of the board's risk audit and governance committee.
