In efforts to improve the quality of life of local graduates in need, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB) recently contributed education assistance funds amounting to RM2,000,000 to eight selected public universities in Malaysia.

The contribution presentation ceremony was officiated by BPMB’s President/Group Chief Executive Officer, Arshad Mohamed Ismail. The virtual event was also attended by officers and senior administrators representing the universities.

Arshad said that this initiative is an annual contribution conducted by BPMB over the last three years, whereby approximately nine public universities have received the contribution to-date.

“We understand that education is essential to alleviate the living standards of families from the B40 community and thus, BPMB remains committed to continuing to exercise our corporate social responsibility to help those in need, especially given the current challenging situation.

Our humble contribution is aimed at ensuring the students will remain focused on their studies, whilst also helping to ease the burden of their families, particularly those affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO), which began in March 2020,” Arshad elaborated.

The recipients of the donation are:

  • Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM)
  • Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM)
  • Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP)
  • Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)
  • Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA)
  • Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP)
  • Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)
  • Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM)

Each university received a donation of RM250,000, which would then be distributed to those in need, especially graduates of the B40 community.
