BANK Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd (BPMB), in reinforcing its commitment to champion equal opportunity for students to have access to quality education, donated computers to SMK Seri Titiwangsa.

The computers came with new hard disks and software licences.  The initiative was made under BPMB’s Supporting English Empowerment to Drive Sustainability (Seeds) School Adoption programme which aims to improve English literacy among students and increase their awareness on sustainability.

SMK Seri Titiwangsa, in Kuala Lumpur, is the first school to benefit from the programme launched in September.  BPMB president and group chief executive officer Arshad Mohamed Ismail said the pandemic highlighted the importance of technology in helping students continue learning during such times.

“Providing students with the necessary tools for online learning is a testament to our commitment in ensuring all of them are given equal opportunity for continuous access to quality education.  “Education is the most valuable asset one can have and no one can take it away from you.

“Seeds shows BPMB’s commitment in supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and we hope to produce environmentally-responsible Malaysian citizens through this programme,” Arshad said.  SMK Seri Titiwangsa principal Zamzuri Abdullah said the school was grateful for the aid.

“We laud BPMB’s commitment to champion the English language among students.  “The contribution of computers to our school is timely and much needed during this pandemic.  “We hope more organisations will come forward with such aid for the students’ benefit,” said Zamzuri.

The event which involved students featured talks by speakers from the United Nations, Direct English and Zer0Hunger Malaysia where information on the SDGs, the importance of the English language and the advantages of urban farming were shared.

The students had the opportunity to witness urban farming and waste composting demonstrations at the school’s herb garden before the talks.

BPMB Operations group head, Muhammad Azraini Abdul Hamid, the school’s senior administrative and curriculum assistant Mohd Arif Mohd Ali and senior assistant (student affairs) Kamarul Nizar Ismail were present at the ceremony.
