KUALA LUMPUR, 1 April 2024
Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd has named Datuk Sulaiman Mohd Tahir as its chairman and independent non-executive director effective from March 20.
This confirmed Business Times report earlier today that Sulaiman, formerly AmBank group chief executive officer (CEO), would be appointed as chairman of the development financial institution (DFI).
The report also said Sulaiman would join Bank Pembangunan with a view to overseeing the next phase of the bank's planned consolidation with other DFIs namely SME Bank and Exim Bank.
Bank Pembangunan completed its merger with Danajamin Bhd in 2023 under Phase 1 of the country's DFI consolidation roadmap announced in 2020 Budget
Bank Pembangunan, in a statement today, said Sulaiman brings extensive senior leadership expertise from over thirty years in the Malaysian financial sector, including his most recent role as the group CEO of AmBank Group.
"Bank Pembangunan has played a pivotal role in national development over the last 50 years.
"I am privileged to have the opportunity to serve such a great institution and to be able to contribute to this country," Sulaiman said in the statement.
Bank Pembangunan group chief executive officer Roni Abdulwahab emphasised that Sulaiman's leadership as chairman will play a crucial role in guiding the bank towards its strategic goals, fostering sustainable growth, and providing impactful capital for national development.
"On behalf of the management, we would like to extend our warmest welcome to Datuk Sulaiman, we look forward to working with him," Roni added.
