Wednesday, 3 March 2021, Kuala Lumpur – Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (“BPMB”) has once again collaborated with Pusat Pungutan Zakat, Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (“PPZ-MAIWP”) to distribute assistance amounting RM35,000 to 100 Asnaf children of PPR Desa Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur. The contributions were made through the Back to School Khaira PPZ-BPMB and Khaira Didik PPZ-BPMB project.

Both contributions are part of a smart partnership initiative between BPMB and PPZ-MAIWP whereby BPMB serves as the fund contributor, whilst PPZ-MAIWP is responsible for identifying recipients eligible for the assistance.

The Back to School Khaira PPZ-BPMB initiative comprises a contribution of vouchers amounting to RM250 for the purchase of school supplies at selected supermarkets. Meanwhile, the Khaira Didik PPZ-BPMB project would entail each recipient opening a National Education Savings Scheme (“SSPN-I”) account with RM100 deposited in their respective accounts. In total, each recipient will receive contributions amounting to RM350.

Held recently at PPR Desa Tun Razak, the contribution presentation ceremony was attended by BPMB’s Head, Business Banking Group II, Hildah Hamzah and PPZ-MAIWP’s Chief Financial Officer, Azhan Ismail along with representatives from the Sinar Bakti Bandar association. The presentation ceremony was held in accordance with the required standard operating procedures set by the government.

BPMB’s President/Group Chief Executive Officer, Arshad Mohamed Ismail said, “We are extremely pleased to have extended our smart partnership with PPZ-MAIWP in our efforts to help reduce the burden on the Asnaf community as we understand that many of them are still reeling from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, our humble contribution is also intended to serve as motivation to cultivate the children’s learning spirit as they are scheduled to return to school soon.”

“As one of the financial institutions in Malaysia adhering to the Islamic banking practice, we remain committed to further exercise our social duties to contribute to the betterment of the surrounding community. We look forward to continue our journey to improve the lives of those in need in the future,” Arshad elaborated.

In partnership with PPZ-MAIWP, BPMB previously contributed basic food assistance to the Asnaf community of Perumahan Awam Seri Perak, Sentul under the ‘Projek Bakul Rezeki Khaira PPZBPMB,’ and to the community of Perumahan Awam Sungai Bonus under the ‘Projek Lori Rezeki Khaira PPZ-BPMB.’ This initiative is part of BPMB’s series of basic food aid assistance programmes totalling approximately RM100, 000 – expected to benefit around 1,400 Asnaf families.
