Friday, 8 January 2021, Kuala Lumpur – In efforts to exercise its social duties as a responsible financial institution, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB) in partnership with Pusat Pungutan Zakat (PPZ)–MAIWP recently contributed approximately RM25, 000 worth of basic food assistance to the asnaf community. This initiative is part of BPMB’s series of basic food aid assistance programme totalling approximately RM100, 000 – expected to benefit approximately 1,400 asnaf families.

This contribution is intended to help alleviate the burden of the asnaf community, especially those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in the loss of their source of income and has affected their provision of daily basic food supplies.

The donation, in the form of basic food aid packs (dry and wet) was given to the community of Perumahan Awam Seri Perak, Sentul under the ‘Projek Bakul Rezeki Khaira PPZ-BPMB,’ and to the community of Perumahan Awam Sungai Bonus under the ‘Projek Lori Rezeki Khaira PPZ-BPMB.’

The donation presentation ceremony, which was held recently at Perumahan Awam Seri Perak, Bandar Baru Sentul was attended by Haji Ahmad Shukri Yusoff, Chief Executive Officer, Pusat Pungutan Zakat-MAIWP and Haji Gulam Muzaffar Haji Gulam Mustakim, Chairman of Council of Representatives, Batu Parliament. Meanwhile, the donation presentation ceremony at Perumahan Awam Sungai Bonus was attended by YBhg. Datuk Haji Razak Haji Abdul Karim, Chairman of the Association of Perumahan Awam Sungai Bonus Community and Haji Abdul Hakim Amir Osman, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Pusat Pungutan Zakat-MAIWP. BPMB was represented by its President/Group Chief Executive Officer, Arshad Mohamed Ismail.

“The collaboration with PPZ-MAIWP is one of BPMB's efforts to carry out our duties as a responsible financial institution to aid the less fortunate, especially those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This is our very first collaboration with PPZ-MAIWP and we hope that our humble contribution can help ease the burden of those in need.

“We are hopeful for a lasting partnership with PPZ-MAIWP as we remain committed to continue to give back to the society. We hope more corporate companies can come together, hand-in-hand to do our part as responsible corporate citizens by championing the needs of the asnaf community so that we can all weather through this challenging period together,” Arshad said.
