Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB) took home the Environmental Development Award recently.

The award, by the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP), was for the bank's role in the Green Technological Park (GTP) development project by Nextgreen Pulp & Paper Sdn Bhd.

The project revolutionised the pulp and paper industry by producing wood-free pulp from palm oil production waste.

The wood-free pulp can be processed into woodfree paper, utilising renewable energy and zero waste technology.

"We are truly honoured to receive this award from ADFIAP. Not only is the project a great model of sustainable business, it creates socioeconomic benefits for the local community and related industries

"As we celebrate our 50th Anniversary this year, we are proud to support responsible businesses.

"We seek to enable more sustainable projects to meet our purpose of delivering impact capital for Malaysia's development," said BPMB's group chief executive officer Roni Abdulwahab in a statement today.

The award was received during the 46th ADFIAP Annual Meetings in Almaty, Kazakhstan recently.

Meanwhile, Roni also shared the bank's efforts in advocating responsible banking.

Through BPMB's holistic impact measurement framework called 'MIND' (Measuring Impact in National Development), he said that BPMB aimed to drive positive economic, environmental and social impact by financing national development projects and contributing to Malaysia's sustainable development goals
