New Straits Times – Budget 2023: Bank Pembangunan mandated to disburse RM6bil funds for strategic projects

KUALA LUMPUR, 24 February 2023

Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd (BPMB) says the 2023 Budget has mandated it to provide financing of up to RM6 billion for strategic development projects.

The projects are to promote sustainability and automation, as well as equity and working capital support for high-performing companies that are still dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic's adverse effects.

"As the country's premier developmental financial institution, BPMB is committed to working closely with the government to ensure sustainable growth for Malaysia by delivering impact capital for national development," its chief executive officer Roni L. Abdulwahab said today.

"The MADANI Budget aligns with BPMB's purpose of delivering impact capital for national development. Our MIND impact assessment framework evaluates development projects not only for financial and economic viability but also from an environmental and social inclusivity perspective to ensure balanced and sustainable national development," he added.

He said the bank's various financing schemes embodied the values that form the pillars of MADANI: Sustainability, Prosperity, Innovation, Respect, Trust and Compassion.

"BPMB has been a strong partner to businesses since its inception, supporting the development of Malaysia's economy and improving the lives of the rakyat. With this budget, we renew this commitment and are proud to continue to serve the nation," Roni said.
