DATO’ SRI MOHAMED NAZIR ABDUL RAZAK

  Non-Executive Chairman

Dato’ Sri Mohamed Nazir Abdul Razak was appointed to the Board of Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad as a Non-Executive Chairman on April 22, 2021. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Economics and Politics, University of Bristol and obtained a Master of Philosophy in Development Economics from the University of Cambridge. He was a Chevening Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies in 2010 and a Transformational Leadership Fellow at the Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford University in 2019.

 

Nazir brings with him over 29 years of experience in the banking industry. His career began in 1989 in the corporate advisory department of Commerce International Merchant Bankers Berhad (now known as CIMB Investment Bank Berhad). He held various roles within the firm before being appointed as Chief Executive in June 1999 at the age of 33. Nazir spearheaded CIMB’s transformation from a Malaysian investment bank to an ASEAN universal bank via a series of bank acquisitions across the region. He served as the Group’s CEO for over 15 years, until 2014 when he became its Chairman. He retired from CIMB in October 2018.

 

During his career at CIMB he also served as a Non-Executive Director of Khazanah Nasional for 4 years from 2014 to 2018 and a member of the Employee Provident Fund Investment Panel for 15 years from 2002 to 2017.

 

Since 2019 Nazir has been the Founding Partner and Chairman of Ikhlas Capital, an ASEAN private equity firm.

 

Nazir received various accolades throughout his career. In 2004, he was awarded the American Express and Business Times CEO of the Year Award. He also became the youngest ever recipient of Finance Asia’s prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” in 2009. He received the Euromoney’s Outstanding Achievement Award in 2012 and Asia House Asian Business Leader Award for 2015.

 

Nazir has made significant contributions in philanthropy. He was instrumental in setting up the CIMB Foundation in 2007 and now sits on the advisory board of the Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS) and is a trustee of the Urological Cancer Trust Fund of Universiti Malaya.

 
 

Pengerusi Bukan Eksekutif

Dato ' Sri Mohamed Nazir Abdul Razak telah dilantik sebagai Pengerusi Bukan Eksekutif Lembaga Pengarah Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad pada 22 April 2021. Beliau lulus dengan Ijazah Sarjana Muda Sains (Kepujian) dalam bidang Ekonomi dan Politik, Universiti Bristol serta memperolehi Sarjana Falsafah dalam Ekonomi Pembangunan dari Universiti Cambridge. Beliau juga adalah Felo Chevening di Pusat Pengajian Islam, Universiti Oxford pada tahun 2010 dan Felo Kepimpinan Transformasi di Blavatnik School of Government, Universiti Oxford pada tahun 2019.

 

Nazir membawa bersamanya lebih dari 29 tahun pengalaman dalam industri perbankan. Kerjaya beliau bermula pada tahun 1989 di Jabatan Penasihat Korporat Commerce International Merchant Bankers Berhad (kini dikenali sebagai CIMB Investment Bank Berhad). Beliau memegang pelbagai jawatan dalam firma itu sebelum dilantik sebagai Ketua Eksekutif pada bulan Jun 1999 pada usia 33 tahun. Nazir menerajui transformasi CIMB dari sebuah bank pelaburan di Malaysia kepada sebuah bank yang universal di rantau ASEAN melalui pemerolehan serangkaian bank di seluruh rantau ini. Beliau pernah berkhidmat sebagai Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Kumpulan selama lebih dari 15 tahun, sehingga 2014 apabila dilantik menjadi Pengerusi. Beliau bersara dari CIMB pada Oktober 2018.

 

Sepanjang kerjayanya di CIMB, beliau juga berkhidmat sebagai Pengarah Bukan Eksekutif Khazanah Nasional selama 4 tahun dari 2014 hingga 2018 dan juga merupakan ahli Panel Pelaburan Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja selama 15 tahun dari tahun 2002 hingga 2017.

 

Semenjak 2019 Nazir telah menjadi Rakan Pengasas dan Pengerusi Ikhlas Capital, sebuah syarikat ekuiti swasta ASEAN.

 

Nazir telah menerima pelbagai penghargaan di sepanjang kariernya. Pada tahun 2004, beliau dianugerahkan Anugerah CEO American Express dan Business Times of the Year. Beliau juga menjadi penerima termuda yang pernah mendapat penghargaan "Lifetime Achievement Award" Finance Asia yang berprestij pada tahun 2009. Selain daripada itu, beliau juga telah menerima Anugerah Pencapaian Luar Biasa Euromoney pada tahun 2012 dan Asia House Asian Business Leader Award untuk tahun 2015.

 

Nazir juga telah memberikan sumbangan yang besar dalam bidang filantropi. Beliau telah memainkan peranan penting dalam penubuhan Yayasan CIMB pada tahun 2007 dan kini menganggotai lembaga penasihat Pusat Filantropi dan Masyarakat Asia (CAPS) serta merupakan pemegang amanah kepada Tabung Amanah Kanser Urologi Universiti Malaya.

ARIFF BIN ROZHAN

  Independent Non-Executive Director

Ariff bin Rozhan was appointed to the Board of Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad on May 10, 2019. He holds an LLB (Hons) from Reading University, Berks, England and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

 

Ariff has practiced law for nearly 30 years. He began his career in 1989 at an international city law firm in London, and thereafter, practiced as a Barrister in London, England, where he was instructed as Counsel at various levels of the Judicial System in England and Wales. He is also an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

 

He returned to Malaysia in 2004 and joined Zaid Ibrahim & Co (ZICO), where he managed the firm's Dispute Resolution department and was on the Executive Committee until April 2015. He then founded Ariff Rozhan & Co in April 2015 and is its Managing Partner. Ariff set up the Chambers of Ariff Rozhan in London, England, from where he recommenced his practice as a Barrister. Ariff has also been authorised by the Bar Council of England & Wales to "Conduct Litigation" and is registered to accept instructions via Direct Access.

 

Ariff has experience in conducting cases in complex claims and disputes, in a wide range of fields including arbitration, corporate and commercial disputes, insurance and reinsurance, banking, administrative, insolvency, construction and contractual matters. He also has extensive experience in cases where forensic investigation is required. His clients include both local and international banks, major local and international corporations, statutory bodies and local authorities.

 

He is currently the Managing Partner of Ariff Rozhan & Co and a Director of Pan Malaysia Corporation Berhad.

   
 

Pengarah Bukan Eksekutif Bebas

Ariff bin Rozhan dilantik sebagai Ahli Lembaga Pengarah Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad pada 10 Mei 2019. Beliau memegang LLB (Kepujian) dari Universiti Reading, Berks, England dan merupakan Felo di Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

 

Ariff telah mengamalkan undang-undang selama hampir 30 tahun. Beliau memulakan kerjaya pada tahun 1989 di sebuah firma undang-undang bertaraf antarabangsa di bandar London, dan selepas itu beliau berkhidmat sebagai Barrister/Peguam di London, England, di mana beliau diarahkan untuk bertugas sebagai Penasihat di pelbagai peringkat Sistem Kehakiman di England dan Wales. Beliau juga pernah ditugaskan sebagai peguam bela dan peguam cara Mahkamah Tinggi Malaya

 

Beliau kembali ke Malaysia pada tahun 2004 dan bertugas dengan Zaid Ibrahim & Co (ZICO), di mana beliau menguruskan jabatan Penyelesaian Pertikaian firma itu serta berkhidmat dalam Jawatankuasa Eksekutif sehingga April 2015. Beliau kemudian mengasaskan Ariff Rozhan & Co pada April 2015 sebagai Rakan Pengurusan. Ariff juga telah menubuhkan Chambers of Ariff Rozhan di London, England, dari memulakan kembali amalan sebagai Barrister/Peguam. Ariff juga telah diberi kuasa oleh Majlis Peguam England & Wales untuk "Menjalankan Litigasi" serta berdaftar untuk menerima arahan melalui Akses Langsung.

 

Ariff berpengalaman dalam menangani kes tuntutan dan pertikaian yang kompleks, dalam berbagai bidang termasuk timbang tara, pertikaian korporat dan komersial, insurans dan insurans semula, perbankan, pentadbiran, kebangkrutan, pembinaan dan hal-hal kontrak. Beliau juga memiliki pengalaman luas dalam kes-kes di mana penyiasatan forensik diperlukan. Pelanggan beliau merangkumi bank tempatan dan antarabangsa, syarikat tempatan dan antarabangsa utama, badan berkanun serta pihak berkuasa tempatan.

 

Beliau kini merupakan Rakan Pengurusan Ariff Rozhan & Co dan Pengarah Pan Malaysia Corporation Berhad.

 

NORAZILLA MD TAHIR

  Independent Non-Executive Director

Norazilla Md Tahir was appointed to the Board of Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad on 14 August 2020.  She has more than 25 years’ experience in financial management, notably in Financial Institution and Capital Market.

 

Prior to her appointment as Director of BPMB, Norazilla was the Chief Financial Officer of Cagamas Berhad for a total of 9 years from when she first joined in 2009. She spearheaded the financial leadership of the Group and was responsible for upholding strong financial management and governance while providing timely, accurate and reliable financial information and enhancing internal control.

 

Apart from Cagamas, Norazilla held other CFO/Head of Finance positions at three Islamic banking institutions, namely RHB Islamic Bank Berhad, Asian Finance Bank Berhad and the Al Rajhi Banking and Investment Corporation (Malaysia) Berhad.

 

Besides banking,Norazilla is also experienced in fast moving consumer goods, having been involved in sales logistic chain management while at L’Oreal Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Universal Music Sdn Bhd.

 

Norazilla is a graduate of the University of Stirling, Scotland, a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and a Fellow Chartered Accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).  She is passionate about coaching and mentoring and her volunteer work includes the coaching of undergraduates at UiTM INTEC.

 
 

Pengarah Bukan Eksekutif Bebas

Norazilla Md Tahir dilantik sebagai Ahli Lembaga Pengarah Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad pada 14 Ogos 2020. Beliau mempunyai lebih dari 25 tahun pengalaman dalam pengurusan kewangan, terutamanya dalam Institusi Kewangan dan Pasaran Modal.

 

Sebelum dilantik sebagai Pengarah BPMB, Norazilla adalah Ketua Pegawai Kewangan Cagamas Berhad selama 9 tahun sejak pertama kali menyertainya pada tahun 2009. Beliau menerajui kepimpinan kewangan Kumpulan Cagamas dan bertanggungjawab untuk menegakkan pengurusan kewangan yang kukuh serta tadbir urus, sambil menyediakan maklumat kewangan tepat pada masanya, jitu dan boleh dipercayai serta meningkatkan kawalan dalaman.

 

Selain Cagamas, Norazilla pernah memegang jawatan Ketua Pegawai Kewangan/ Ketua Kewangan lain di tiga institusi perbankan Islam, iaitu RHB Islamic Bank Berhad, Asian Finance Bank Berhad dan Al Rajhi Banking and Investment Corporation (Malaysia) Berhad.

 

Selain dari bidang perbankan, Norazilla juga berpengalaman dalam barangan pengguna yang bergerak pantas, serta terlibat dalam pengurusan rantaian logistik penjualan ketika berada di L'Oreal Malaysia Sdn Bhd dan Universal Music Sdn Bhd.

 

Norazilla adalah lulusan Universiti Stirling, Scotland, seorang ahli Institut Akauntan Malaysia (MIA) serta Felo Akauntan Berkanun Institut Akauntan Berkanun di England dan Wales (ICAEW). Beliau juga bersemangat untuk memberi bimbingan dan menjadi seorang mentor, dimana beliau meluangkan waktu sebagai sukarela bagi pelajar sarjana muda di UiTM INTEC.

THOMAS MEOW YOKE NEAN

Independent Non-Executive Director

Thomas Meow Yoke Nean was appointed to the Board of Directors of Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad on 2 June 2021. He holds a Bachelor of Accounting (Hons) from the University of Malaya.

 

Thomas has over 30 years of experience in the banking industry and has held numerous positions in RHB Bank and CIMB Group. He began his career as a FX Swap Trader at RHB Bank in 1990 and was its Head of Structured Derivatives when he set up the first derivatives desk, during the formative years of Malaysia’s derivatives market.

 

He joined CIMB Group in 1997 where he held various positions until 2019. Thomas set up the Structured Products franchise upon joining the bank. From 1999 he also built and led the Sukuk and Bond franchises to become the largest underwriter of local currency bond issuances in ASEAN, and as published by Bloomberg, one of the world’s largest underwriters for Sukuk issuances.

 

Thomas helmed CIMB Discount House as Chief Executive Officer before it was merged with CIMB Investment Bank. Over the years, his portfolio expanded to include securitisation, loan syndication, project and acquisition finance in the Asean region. He is experienced in Debt Capital Markets origination and syndication covering Sukuk, bonds, bank capital, Tier 1, sub-debt, hybrid and convertible bonds, also in the Asean region.

 

Other equally notable experiences include Fixed Income Trading & Market Making, investment of CIMB’s capital in the fixed income markets, Corporate Banking covering Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Hong Kong & China, Special Situations Investment, Aircraft and Mezzanine Finance.

 

Thomas held the role of Advisor to the Group CEO from 2016 to 2019 and was a member of CIMB Group Management Committee from 2015 to 2018; and Chairman of its Group Underwriting and Group Credit Committees from 2015 to 2019 and 2016 to 2019 respectively.

 

His significant contributions to the broader industry was as Chairman of the Debt Capital Markets Committee of the Malaysian Investment Banking Association from 2006 to 2015 and as Deputy Chair of the ASEAN+3 Bond Market Forum, established under the auspices of the Asian Bond Markets Initiative, from 2011 to 2015.

 

Thomas was a Director at LIM Asia Special Situations Fund managed by LIM Advisors Hong Kong from 2010 to 2015 and has, since 2020, been a partner of BlackWater Ventures PLT, an investment holding partnership.
